Interview Preparation Tips

Great news on securing your interview!

We have provided a brief guide to potential Interview questions that may be asked. These are a guideline only which you may / may not be asked and there may be additional questions.

Please ensure you do your additional research on the interviewer, company website, job description and prepare 2-3 good questions that you can ask them. Feel free to also pick your recruitment consultant’s brain on any additional info that they can share to help you perform to your best!

Please remember to dress well and do the adequate amount of preparation.

WARM-UP

  • What do you know about our company?
  • Why should we hire you? How can you add value to our firm?
  • Why are you leaving your present job? (or, Why did you leave your last job?)
  • How long can you commit to work with us?
  • What is your current salary breakdown?
  • What is your expected salary?
  • If you were offered this position, when would you be available to start?

WORK HISTORY

  • Briefly, would you summarize your work history?
  • Can you please explain the gaps in your work history (if any)?
  • How much supervision have you typically received in your previous job?
  • What is important to you in a company? What things do you look for in an organization?

JOB PERFORMANCE

  • Can you describe for me one or two of your most important accomplishments?
  • What are your performance targets? How have you performed against these targets?
  • What would you say, are your areas where you need improvement? (spin into a positive)
  • How did your supervisor on your most recent job evaluate your job performance? What were some of the good points and bad points of that rating?
  • In your previous job what kind of pressures did you encounter?

CAREER GOALS

  • What are your long-term employment or career objective/career aspirations?
  • What kind of job do you see yourself holding three years or five years from now?
  • What you need to develop in terms of skill and knowledge in order to be ready for that opportunity?
  • How does this job fit in with your overall career goals?
  • Who or what in your life would you say influenced you most with your career objectives?
  • What would you most like to accomplish if you had this job?

SELF-ASSESSMENT

  • What kind of things do you feel most confident in doing?
  • Can you describe for me a difficult obstacle you have had to overcome? How did you handle it?
  • Do you prefer working alone or in a team environment?
  • Do you consider yourself a self-starter? If so, explain why (give examples)
  • What things frustrate you the most? How do you usually cope with them?
  • What was the most significant change made in your company in the last six months which directly affected you, and how successfully do you think you implemented this change?

RANGE OF INTERESTS

  • Out of work, what do you really enjoy doing?
  • Tell me specifically what you do in the social activities in which you participate. (Leading questions in selected areas. i.e. sports, economics, current events, others)
  • How do you keep up with what’s going on in your company / your industry/ your profession?

LEADERSHIP

  • What approach do you take in getting your people to accept your ideas or department goals?
  • What specifically do you do to set an example for your employees?
  • How frequently do you meet with your immediate subordinates as a group?
  • When judging the performance of your subordinate, what factors or characteristics are most important to you?
  • How would you describe your basic leadership style? Give specific examples of how you practice this?
  • Do you feel you work more effectively on a one to one basis or in a group situation?
  • Have you ever led a task force or committee or any group who doesn’t report to you, but from whom you have to get work? How did you do it? What were the satisfactions and disappointments? How would you handle the job differently?
